If we have kidded ourselves that it would get easier against more lowly opposition, The Heed were 17th going into this one, then we have a long hard road to perdition and reality coming under Woods. Yes you can argue they have one two in their last 3, but wins against Southport and Altrincham hardly set the world alight; and Crawley are a site we must at least emulate if not beat.

This was a toothless shot shy performance against a well organised yet technically and with 863 there financially; inferior side to Town on paper and if truth be told on the pitch before our very eyes. Under Woods, even when Carlton is released you feel progress will have been to avoid emulated that 23 goal winless streak.

Nice a chap as he is we need a fire in our bellies and that is just not there - our best chance fell to second half substitute midfielder Hudson, who hit the post. We started slow - they huffed and puffed without really working the keeper - and in reality the Tyneside`s edged us everywhere, statistically and physically with the second ball a foregone conclusion after 25 minutes. Gobern and Bore were passengers down the flanks, bar a brief renaissance second half.

They managed six shots to our 5 efforts with both sides managing two on target allegedly.

Apologies to those wanting a full match report but in all honesty I would not want to waste your valuable time. No one wants to call for a manager`s head but square pegs and round holes is becoming increasingly evident and we need to be back up the Leagues as fast as possible. Midtable mediocrity is not an option when the club has historic debts of £2.6 million and needed another million pound subsidy from two directors this season.
