Grimsby Town

9/7/2010 KO 19.30

Attendance: 1025

The Codfather was as good as his word with everyone getting a game, although absent Colgan was a notable exception as Town visited our local Evo-Stik League neighbours Brigg Town on Friday night. Another huge psychological boost came from the terraces as the Mariners turned out in force ahead of a massive season for the club. There must have been upwards of seven hundred in a healthy crowd of 1025 showing we stand together (1500 ST`s sold so far too).

Brigg had their moments with Arthur making an outstanding save to tip over Daniel Barrett`s peach of a freekick in the second minute. Hegarty looked lively and alert on the flank and won a freekick at the other end. He has not lost his deft delivery with Kempson sending one wide to prove he will be a threat in both boxes this season. He looks a smooth operator, nothing flash, showing strong no nonsense defending and a tackle like a sledgehammer.

On 22 minutes Hegarty found Peacock the poacher who who`s angled effort appeared to have crossed the line although Pettinger was deemed to have clawed it back. The Town back four of Robbie Stockdale, Kempson, Wood and Hegarty had a couple of moments but looked solid with only Buttle blasting one wide. At the other end the irrepressible Peacock came out on top in a right royal goalmouth scramble but could not find the net. Coulson could courtesy of a cool conversion on 41 minutes. Controlling a Stockdale set piece on his chest he instinctively hit a smart right foot half volley home to the delight of the travelling hordes.

Charlie (Ademeno) began with a bang, his left foot piledriver palmed away impressively by Robert Zand. His second half partner in crime, graduate Tom Corner, looks a find with some nice flicks and nifty touches if 45 minutes is anything to go by. He, Charlie and Forbes appeared to have quite an understanding with only a last ditch tackle from their full back keeping Adrian off the score sheet early doors second half.
Centre half Scott Garner, takes no prisoners and like Kempson looks a force in both boxes, sending one wide at a free-kick. Fuller also sliced one wide before Garner rose highest to power over the bar. Forbes was a busy impressive figure on Friday which suggests we could see the best of him on the flank this season.

Grimsby Town (1st half): Arthur, Stockdale, Hegarty, Wood, Kempson, O'Mahoney, Hudson, Rhoades, Coulson, Peacock, Jones.
Grimsby Town (2nd half): Arthur (Croudson 67), Bore, Ridley, Gray, Garner, Forbes, Leary, Cummins, Fuller, Corner (Dixon 77), Ademeno.
Goals: Coulson 41 (Town)
Attendance: 1,025

Forbes & Hegarty were busy impressive figures on the flank which bodes well for this season. Both are on the list but look up for the cause
